There are many types of ice available and each of them has a different purpose and dilution rate. However, bigger is actually not always better as it all depends on the type of drink you are using it for. Some drinks call for more dilution, and this can be achieved with crushed ice which gives cocktails that slushy texture.
Crushed ice is sometimes called pebble ice, cracked ice, or nugget ice. It is created using a specialised machine which cracks the ice cubes into small jelly bean pieces. Making crushed ice at home can be a time consuming, tedious task. On the other hand, buying packaged crushed ice saves you time and ensures it's of the highest quality, crystal clear, and safe to consume. It is important to use the purest ice available as this will eventually impact the flavour of your drink.
From mojito to pina colada, these 7 drinks are some of the easiest crushed ice cocktails to make at home and enjoy on a hot summer day (or when you're missing summer and want to get yourself into that summer mood).
1. Mojito
The Mojito dates back to the 1500's making it one of the oldest mixed drinks! The drink is thought to have been created by Drake himself - that's Sir Francis to you and I! Originally it was consumed for medicinal purposes!
Some people say that is a load of rubbish and its origins are in Cuba and the cocktail was created by African slaves working in the sugar cane fields!
Who knows, but it tastes great!
Ingredients
A handful of Ice Club Crushed Ice
50ml white rum
50ml soda water
2 teaspoons caster sugar
Juice of 1 lime
Approx 12 fresh mint leaves
Method
So, to make this properly, cut the lime in ¼'s and put in a tall glass with the sugar. Using a muddler (or the end of a rolling pin) squish the lime with the sugar to release the juice.
Take the mint leave and clap between your hands - this will bruise the leaves and release the fresh flavour. Drop the leaves into your glass and squish again.
Half fill with ice, pour over the rum and soda, stir and top up with more crushed ice.
2. Strawberry Daiquiri
The Daiquiri was first created in 1898 by a man called Jennings Stockton Cox, an American engineer who was working in a place called Daiquiri in Cuba!
It was a real favourite of the author Ernest Hemmingway!
Ingredients
A large handful of Ice Club Crushed Ice
4-6 fresh strawberries
2 tsp white sugar
50ml white rum
Juice of 1 lime
Method
Cut the strawberries in half, add to a blender with the sugar and pulse until fairly smooth.
Add the remaining ingredients and pulse to a slush.
Pour into a glass and serve immediately.
3. Bloody Mary
Traditionally a Bloody Mary is served with a stick of celery to garnish. Don’t remove the leaves as they taste great!
Using a celery stick to garnish a Bloody Mary originated in the 1960s at Chicago's Ambassador East Hotel. An unnamed celebrity got a Bloody Mary, but no swizzle stick. He grabbed a stalk of celery from the relish tray to stir his Bloody Mary and history was made.
Ingredients
A handful of Ice Club Crushed Ice
Vodka, double shot (50ml)
Juice of ½ lemon
dashes Worcestershire sauce
3 dashes Tabasco sauce
150ml tomato juice
Pinch salt and freshly ground black pepper
So, that’s 1 part vodka to 3 parts tomato juice! Simple!
Method
Place the ice in a tall glass, add the vodka, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco and tomato juice and stir well.
Season with salt and pepper and serve.
4. Blue Lagoon
Traditionally you would serve this cocktail with blueberries and mint, but we think it looks great! For a more traditional version, garnish with a cocktail cherry and even a little cocktail umbrella! Fabulous!
Blue Curacao tastes of bitter oranges. So why is it blue? We have absolutely no idea, but it looks good!
Ingredients
A large handful of Ice Club Crushed Ice
50ml vodka
25ml Blue Curacao
100m lemonade
Blueberries and fresh mint to garnish
So, that's 2 parts vodka, 1 part blue curacao and 4 parts lemonade! Oh, and don't forget the little paper umbrella!
Method
Place a few blueberries and mint leaves into your glass.
Add the crushed ice, vodka, curacao and lemonade and give it a good stir!
Add a straw and serve!
5. White Russian
The White Russian doesn't actually originate from Russia! The name is a variant of the Black Russian, which was created by a Belgian bartender in honor of the American ambassador to Luxembourg. (no Russians, other than the ones who made the vodka.)
Ingredients
A handful of Ice Club Crushed Ice
Coffee liquor 30ml
Vodka 25ml
single cream (or half milk half single cream) For a dairy free alternative you can use soya or almond milk. We bet it would be delicious with coconut milk!
Method
Put the crushed ice in a small glass. Pour over the coffee liquor and vodka and stir.
Slowly pour the cream over the back of a spoon so it sits on top of the Kahlua and vodka in 2 layers.
Harder than it looks, but worth a try!
6. Pina Colada
This drink was created in Puerto Rico in the early 1950's!
The pina colada has been the official beverage of Puerto Rico since 1978.
July 10th is National Pina Colada Day.
Ingredients
A large handful of Ice Club Crushed Ice
50ml white rum
75ml pineapple juice

Garnish with a wedge of fresh pineapple, a straw, a cherry, an umbrella, or....just a straw will do!
7. The Ice Kiss
The Ice Kiss was created in 2016 by a cocktail barman called Silva. It was created especially for Ice Club, and more specifically for Eskimo Ice's Managing Director. He said he wanted something, fresh, original and have a bit of a WOW factor! Well done Silva... you definitely nailed it! Delicious!
